As&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.upworthy.com\/gen-x-latchkey-kids-share-their-funniest-and-most-frightening-home-alone-stories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latchkey kids<\/a>, Gen Xers were notoriously allowed to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.upworthy.com\/80s-kids-roam-freely-40000-answers-ex1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roam free<\/a>&nbsp;and consume pop culture during a more analog time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it wasn\u2019t that long ago\u2014times are different. In a Reddit community, Gen Xers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1owdki9\/what_gen_x_habit_cant_you_break_despite_it_being\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discussed<\/a>&nbsp;the outdated habits, words, and phrases they&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1l0xzv0\/worst_genx_habits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">just can\u2019t shake<\/a>&nbsp;from their 1980s childhoods<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/humorsidehub.com\/4a810818-d982-4ccc-8d13-6195e2cb7ff7\">\u2014even though they are outdated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are 20 relatable realizations Gen Xers had about their outdated habits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was on the phone with a friend, someone else called in and I answered the second call, but I reflexively told the second person I was \u201con the other line *long distance* and asked if I could call them back later. When I realized later what I said, I was like WTF, I have unlimited minutes across all of North America, this isn\u2019t 1987.\u201d \u2013 RockTheGlobe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStill making the hand-crank motion when telling someone to roll down their window.\u201d \u2013 UnderwhelmingAF<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1owdki9\/comment\/nopdj9p\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCutting the plastic soda separators in a six or twelve pack \u2013 to save the dolphins.\u201d \u2013 sutter333<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1owdki9\/comment\/noprzaz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAsking for unleaded gas.\u201d \u2013 BigBadBinky<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1l0xzv0\/comment\/mvgzox7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAsking to be sat in the non-smoking section.\u201d \u2013 ncwv44b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI still \u2018nuke\u2019 things in the microwave.\u201d \u2013 myslothisslow<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GenX\/comments\/1owdki9\/comment\/nopiecw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI put the popcorn in and set the timer and then stand there and listen for the pops to slow down to then stop the microwave. My kids put popcorn in, push the button that says \u201cpopcorn\u201d, and walk away\u2026 and when they come back the popcorn is properly popped, not burnt, not many unpopped kernels left. But I still don\u2019t trust the popcorn button.
