When she got the call to take care of a newborn baby, Braelyn, they didn\u2019t necessarily expect him to be in their lives forever. Years later, however, Julie still sees Braelyn almost every day, just not in the way she may have originally expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_286798\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lwm-a2.azureedge.net\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Julie-Long_foster_baby5-900x1197.jpg\" alt=\"mom holding her foster baby\" class=\"wp-image-286798\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Braelyn\u2019s biological dad got full custody of him, he asked Julie to continue to babysit Braelyn while he worked. Having him in her life has created a special bond between the two of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe calls me Mama Julie, which I love,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m not his mom but I\u2019m like a mom to him. The only mom he knows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julie has loved having Braelyn in her life still and watching him&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovewhatmatters.com\/family-of-11-shares-foster-care-adoption-journey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grow up<\/a>&nbsp;and she is thankful that Braelyn\u2019s dad has let her continue to be a part of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have loved being a part of all of his \u2018firsts,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cHe has me kiss all his boo-boos and give him hugs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_286795\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lwm-a2.azureedge.net\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Julie-Long_foster_baby2-900x1125.png\" alt=\"woman carrying her foster baby\" class=\"wp-image-286795\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_286807\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lwm-a2.azureedge.net\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Julie-Long_foster_baby13-900x1125.png\" alt=\"foster child feeding the lambs on the farm\" class=\"wp-image-286807\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a foster mom, the hardest part for Julie is often saying goodbye. But she is thankful for the opportunities she gets to be involved in a child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe hardest part is saying goodbye \u2013 hands down. Every time I go through a grieving process,\u201d she says. \u201cI feel like there are little pieces of my heart running around and they have no idea. All of our foster children have been under 4 years old so most of them don\u2019t remember us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with this, Julie says that fostering has been an amazing experience for her and her family.
