Over&nbsp;<strong>26 years<\/strong>, their dedication transformed the desolate fields into a thriving forest once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/readydailytimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-489-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76164\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Birth of SAI Sanctuary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located in the&nbsp;<strong>Western Ghats of Southern India<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>SAI Sanctuary<\/strong>&nbsp;now spans&nbsp;<strong>over 300 acres<\/strong>&nbsp;of protected rainforest. The region is one of the&nbsp;<strong>world\u2019s biodiversity hotspots<\/strong>, recognized by the United Nations, and serves as the&nbsp;<strong>heart of the watershed<\/strong>&nbsp;for the entire South Indian Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the Malhotras first began in&nbsp;<strong>1991<\/strong>, they started with just&nbsp;<strong>55 acres<\/strong>&nbsp;of degraded land, abandoned rice paddies and overused coffee and cardamom fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/readydailytimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-493-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76168\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen we first came here, most of the lands that were sold to us were abandoned\u201d, Pamela recalled. \u201cA lot of deforestation had taken place. It took a lot of care, energy, and years to bring it back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Safe Haven for Endangered Species<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the sanctuary is home to&nbsp;<strong>over 200 globally endangered species<\/strong>&nbsp;of plants and animals, including&nbsp;<strong>Asian elephants<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Bengal tigers<\/strong>, and countless birds, insects, and native plants. The forest has become a living ecosystem where&nbsp;<strong>every species plays a vital role<\/strong>&nbsp;in maintaining balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe both feel a tremendous amount of joy when we walk through the sanctuary\u201d, Pamela said. \u201cI\u2019ve never felt this kind of joy in anything else I\u2019ve done in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/readydailytimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-496.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76171\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Circle of Life Restored<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the trees returned, so did the insects. The insects nourished the soil, which allowed new growth to flourish.
