The Charlotte Chess Center announced his passing in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on behalf of the Naroditsky family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Daniel Naroditsky,\u201d the statement&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CLTchesscenter\/status\/1980312444762546352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read<\/a>. The family described Naroditsky as \u201ca talented chess player, commentator, and educator, and a cherished member of the chess community, admired and respected by fans and players around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was also a loving son and brother, and a loyal friend to many,\u201d they&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CLTchesscenter\/status\/1980312444762546352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">added<\/a>. The cause of death has not been made public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before ending the statement, the family asked for privacy during this time. \u201cLet us remember Daniel for his passion and love for the game of chess, and for the joy and inspiration he brought to us all every day,\u201d they&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CLTchesscenter\/status\/1980312444762546352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concluded<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Daniel Naroditsky was a Chess Prodigy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Naroditsky was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chess.com\/member\/danielnaroditsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">born and raised<\/a>&nbsp;in the San Francisco Bay Area. He learned chess at age six from his father and brother and quickly fell in love with the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His early career highlight came in 2007 when he won the gold medal at the Under-12 World Youth Chess Championship in Antalya, Turkey. He became an International Master in 2011 and secured his final GM norm at the 2013 Benasque Open in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naroditsky also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chess.com\/member\/danielnaroditsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surpassed<\/a>&nbsp;the 2500 FIDE rating threshold, officially earning the grandmaster title. He crossed the 2600 mark a year later, and his current FIDE rating is 2621.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, after graduating from Stanford University, Naroditsky moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2010, at just 14 years old, he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mastering-Positional-Chess-Daniel-Naroditsky\/dp\/9056913107\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cMastering Positional Chess,\u201d a well-received instructional book that earned praise for its clarity and practical lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2014, he was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschesstrust.org\/2014-samford-fellow-gm-daniel-naroditsky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">awarded<\/a>&nbsp;the Frank P. Samford, Jr. Chess Fellowship, the most prestigious chess fellowship in the United States. The world lost a brilliant man today. May his memory live on forever and may we always cherish his contributions to our beautiful game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Posts and Last Known Words<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Naroditsky\u2019s final social media update came just days before his death, on October 18, 2025. In a YouTube video&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-rqPeGKVPbA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">titled<\/a>, \u201cYou Thought I Was Gone!? Speedrun Returns! | English, French | GM Naroditsky\u2019s DYI Speedrun,\u201d he appeared upbeat and ready to return to content creation. Early in the video, Naroditsky shared that he had been on a \u201ccreative break\u201d but was now back and \u201cbetter than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His last post on X, dated September 30, 2025, referenced his chess rating and included a light-hearted joke in response to a comment from Olexandr Bortnyk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDocumenting this achievement with another case; not every day does the International Chess Federation solve the mystery of time travel! Now, if they\u2019d be so kind as to help me get to 1858, so I can experience Paul Morphy\u2019s genius firsthand :),\u201d he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GmNaroditsky\/status\/1972759024019120243\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His final known words were sent around 2 a.m. to Bortnyk, where he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/bortnykchess\/clip\/GloriousUnsightlyElephantHeyGirl-qO8tPXyhtxR4HSWW?filter=clips&amp;range=7d&amp;sort=time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cHappy Birthday, Sasha.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bortnyk reflected on his final exchange with Naroditsky. While deeply saddened by the loss, he said he was at peace knowing his last message to his friend was filled with love. \u201cDanya, don\u2019t worry about anything. I love you so much,\u201d he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/bortnykchess\/clip\/GloriousUnsightlyElephantHeyGirl-qO8tPXyhtxR4HSWW?filter=clips&amp;range=7d&amp;sort=time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;his friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daniel Naroditsky leaves behind a powerful legacy as a world-class player, teacher, and ambassador for chess. From his early days as a prodigy to his work as a coach and content creator, he inspired a generation of players.
