OGDEN, Utah \u2014 The family of a 16-year-old high school student shot and killed in Ogden on Tuesday<\/strong><\/a> is remembering him as a “hardworking, funny young man with the biggest heart.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although police have not officially identified the victim, Mason Caballero’s family shared his story on a GoFundMe page<\/strong><\/a> created to help cover funeral expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caballero was a student at Ben Lomond High School and was brought to the school immediately after being shot nearby. He later died of his injuries, and a suspect or suspects remain at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His family said Caballero was “always respectful and well-mannered, never missing a chance to help his grandma cook their favorite meals or lend a hand in the yard. Mason brought laughter and joy to his older siblings and valued every moment spent with those he loved.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the fundraising page, Mason’s family admits that no amount of money will “bring him back,” but they hope anything raised will help reduce the stress they currently face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Mason\u2019s passing has left a profound impact on his family. Kashton lost his best friend and role model, and his grandparents, parents, and siblings are all grieving the loss of someone who was the heart of their family,” the GoFundMe read. “Mason\u2019s kindness, willingness to help, and ability to make others smile will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogden resident Sandra Uecker lives near the shooting scene and has outdoor surveillance cameras. Unfortunately, they were pointed in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So, sadly, I was hoping that it would have given [police] more to go on, but our cameras didn\u2019t even point toward the intersection here,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uecker went on to say the shooting has impacted many who live by the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My heart goes out to the family that lost their loved one; it\u2019s probably not even registered with them what\u2019s actually happened,” she said. “I felt like, what if that had been one of my kids or grandkids?
