{"id":1165,"date":"2025-09-26T14:03:47","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humorsidehub.com\/?p=1165"},"modified":"2025-09-26T14:03:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:03:48","slug":"motorist-convinced-99-of-drivers-dont-know-what-this-sign-means","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/humorsidehub.com\/?p=1165","title":{"rendered":"Motorist Convinced \u201899% Of Drivers\u2019 Don\u2019t Know What This Sign Means"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Motorist is convinced that \u201899% of drivers\u2019 don\u2019t know what this sign means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before taking your driving test in the UK, you must pass a theory test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motorists must learn about the laws of the road \u2013 including road signs \u2013 as well as take the hazard perception test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this being mandatory, it seems that most drivers have forgotten what one common sign means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Found on roads all across the UK, this particular road sign is round and has a white backdrop with a thick black diagonal stripe through the middle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a road sign that every driver has to be aware of \u2013 yet it seems a lot of people do not have a clue what it means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posting on Reddit, one person says: \u201cI\u2019m convinced 99% of drivers don\u2019t know what this sign means.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People have taken to the comments to provide their own guesses, with one person joking: \u201cNational drifting zone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Someone else says: \u201cNational speed limit, but what that limit depends on what you\u2019re driving. For example, if you\u2019re driving a BMW it\u2019s 100mph and excuses you from using indicators.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another person pens: \u201cOh that\u2019s the \u2018go as fast as you want and overtake on a bend if you feel like it\u2019 sign!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_103753\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/igvofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Article-Images-1200-%C3%97-600px-82.png\" alt=\"National speed limit sign.\" class=\"wp-image-103753\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This is the national speed limit sign. Credit: Alamy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One user comments: \u201cIt means \u201cminimum speed \u2013 80,\u201d leading to someone responding: \u201cIn my experience it\u2019s \u2018max 40\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFlat out is what I see,\u201d insists a fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure it means you\u2019re driving in the countryside,\u201d jokes another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you are wondering what the sign actually means, it is an indicator to let you know you can drive at the national speed limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rac.co.uk\/drive\/advice\/learning-to-drive\/the-highway-code-uk-road-signs-and-meanings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RAC<\/a>:&nbsp;\u201cA white circular sign with a single black diagonal stripe through it tells you that the national speed limit applies on the upcoming stretch of road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt supersedes any previous speed limit signs you may have had to adhere to, such as passing through temporary roadworks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the national speed limit depends on the area you are in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a built-up area \u2013 a road where street lamps are placed no more than 200 yards apart \u2013 the speed limit for all vehicles is 30mph. On a single-carriageway, the national speed limit is 60 mph for cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for vans or vehicles that are towing a trailer\/caravan, it is 50 mph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, on a dual carriageway and motorway, the speed limit is 70 mph for a car or 60 mph for vans and vehicles towing a caravan\/trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOf course, even when the national speed limit applies, it might not always be safe to drive at that speed, so use your common sense on this,\u201d the RAC warns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motorist is convinced that \u201899% of drivers\u2019 don\u2019t know what this sign means.
