Where does it come from? Can it be removed? A dermatologist shares her advice with Femme Actuelle. Electric razor

Hair gets everywhere, and when we say everywhere, we’re not exaggerating!

While unwanted hair on our legs, thighs, underarms, or bikini line can sometimes be a nuisance, these aren’t the only areas where our body hair can be unruly. It can also appear above the lips, on the chin, or even on the stomach—areas where we’d rather do without hair, even though its presence isn’t abnormal. Now let’s add to this list the hair on our fingers and toes!

Whether dark or light or dense, depending on the individual, the hair on the feet and hands can sometimes be a source of insecurity, although its presence is not uncommon. While some people are luckier and have none at all, wait until you discover the purpose of this hair! Drumroll, please: hair on toes and fingers… “serves no purpose,” explains dermatologist Dr. Nina Roos. Indeed, “they are probably small remnants of our animal nature,” adds the expert. But why do some people have more than others? “It’s really familial and genetic,” the dermatologist tells us. While there’s no obligation to remove it, it is possible to get rid of it, but be careful, not just any old way. Electric razor:
How to remove hair on the feet and hands safely?
Unlike hair on the stomach, for example, hair on the feet and hands is “not pathological,” explains Nina Roos. “It’s truly genetic, and there’s nothing we can do about it; we’re born with it,” she says. So, it’s perfectly normal not to pay attention to it. However, if it bothers you and you can’t stop noticing it, don’t panic; there are very simple solutions. Be careful, though, not to give in to the temptation to shave it all off! The expert explains that “this will only make it grow back stronger.” Her advice? Opt for techniques that remove or dye the hair. An electric epilator, cold or hot wax, depilatory cream, or even tweezers, for the more adventurous… All these methods can work; it’s up to you to choose the one that suits you best.

Are you considering permanent hair removal? This technique isn’t out of the question, even though “it’s never 100% hair removal,” explains the dermatologist. “It’s not the area where it works best,” she adds, although the medical community hasn’t yet been able to fully explain why. Indeed, the specialist explains that some areas of the body respond less well to laser treatment, such as the knees, the tops of the feet, or the backs of the hands. However, “if you’re already using laser, don’t hesitate to ask to have these areas treated as well, even if it only partially improves the situation,” the expert concludes.

Having hair is natural, but it can still be quite bothersome, especially when it appears in certain areas, like on the fingers or toes.
